Priority and significance assessment

Henry Zweiman. September 15, 2026. P45, developed as Q53.

Internal decision

The consolidated manuscript supports publication as one research preprint, subject to final artifact and public-file verification. It addresses explicit published questions about thin reactive patches and develops a general spectral-measure and uniform-response theorem. This is a provisional internal research judgment, not independent mathematical review, an absolute novelty certificate, or assurance of acceptance by Advances in Mathematics or Transactions of the AMS.

Closest source

Grebenkov and Maurette, Physical Review E 113, 034112 (2026), published March 10, 2026, is the closest source. Its author-posted final PDF was downloaded and the relevant passages read. Section III C, printed page 034112-14, asks about the zero limit of the principal spectral weight for thin ellipses and rhombi. Section IV, pages 034112-17–18, discusses small weights, localization, and possible dominance of higher weights. Appendix B, page 034112-23, conjectures the two tube asymptotics (B18) and (B19), including bounded remainders. The current arXiv history lists v1 October 29, 2025 and v2 January 30, 2026, with no later version visible on September 15, 2026.

The manuscript proves vanishing of every fixed weight for zero-measure maximum-width sets, including the two named profiles; constructs a connected smooth F1>F0 example; and proves (B18)–(B19) for fixed regular embedded center curves. Its treatment of arbitrary curves is explicitly restricted by smoothness and positive reach. The source's integral operator, spectral capacitance formula, monotonicity, and one-pole approximation are credited as prior work.

Read scope for the final article: Sections II A–D, the relevant variational passage in II F, Sections III A–D, the targeted discussion in IV, and the end of Appendix B. The entire numerical implementation and every appendix proof were not independently audited. Formula (27), the normalization in (14)/(20), and the exact O(1) targets in (B18)/(B19) were checked directly. This is a claim-specific source comparison, not a claim to have verified the source's entire paper.

Focused public searches covered thin reactive patches, principal-weight localization, Riesz potential operators on thin domains, narrow-strip Steklov problems, single-layer slender-body asymptotics, and the names of the originating authors. The identified Stokes slender-body literature uses a different vector operator and boundary geometry. Dostanic's 1997 singular-integral paper concerns high-index asymptotics on fixed sets, based on its primary abstract and introductory discussion. An author-uploaded 2026 Johnson thesis was screened at abstract, contents, and publication-list level: it studies logarithmic-potential shape inequalities and related Riesz operators, not the identified thin-width questions at that level of inspection. It is not a proof dependency. These screens do not substitute for reading any future closer result that is found.

No prior resolution of the combined claims was found in the sources checked. This is a bounded search dated September 15, 2026; unindexed, unpublished, or later work may change that judgment. HTML body dates were not used as version dates: the arXiv histories were read directly.

Why this is more than a leading eigenvalue estimate

The leading row estimate and approximate-identity argument are elementary in isolation. The contribution is the complete combination: a noncompact strong limit, collapse of every fixed eigenvalue to the maximum width, escape of every fixed weight, and convergence of the full input spectral measure. A separate energy argument controls the perfect-reaction endpoint, allowing relative error uniformly across an unbounded reactivity range. This then gives an exact criterion for asymptotic validity of the standard one-pole approximation and a nonzero limiting error for every nonconstant width profile. The tube remainders and connected weight-reversal example settle additional explicit questions without being split into separate papers.

These results give reusable local spectral and response data for the active narrow-capture literature. They also expose the distinction between eigenvalue location and observable spectral mass, which is relevant when replacing a full response by a principal mode. These are concrete reasons to seek expert analysis/PDE review at the program's desired standard. The proof uses established tools and is relatively short; a journal may regard its breadth or technical depth as better suited to a specialized analysis or applied-mathematics venue. Citation impact and journal suitability cannot be certified.

Counting and frontier

Count at most one paper after verified public publication. No separate count for ellipses, rhombi, curved strips, tubes, the one-pole criterion, or the disk construction. Sharp spectral corrections and localization scales remain open here. Independent expert review has not occurred.
